Wolt describes its own style as bright, airy and minimalistic, with neutral and pastel colors. Matching that style is a choice, not a rule.
Note the difference between generating and editing. Wolt bans AI-generated images. Its portal still offers an optional Improve with AI background edit for real photos you upload.
Wolt says some images will be rejected if they do not meet its photo guidelines. These are the guidelines it lists.
Replace it with a real photo of the dish you serve. Wolt bans generated images.
Crop to 16:9 landscape. If a crop cuts into the food, shoot the dish again in landscape.
Show the whole plate with a little space around it. Reframe from the original file.
Steady the phone and tap the food to focus. Editing cannot add detail the camera did not capture.
Crop out hands, faces and bodies. Wolt wants the food only.
Photograph each menu item on its own. Keep sides and drinks out unless they are part of the item.
Remove captions, prices, logos and frames. Export a clean copy of the photo.
Show the real portion and plating the customer receives. Update the photo when the dish changes.
Edit a photo when it is sharp and only the light or crop is wrong. Reshoot it when it is vertical with no room to crop, blurry, or shows more than one item.
You can also ask Wolt Support for a self-service image link. You shoot on your phone, and Wolt edits the photos within 24 hours and uploads them to your menu.
Keep a set of large landscape originals that your restaurant owns. Crop a fresh copy for each app instead of reusing one export everywhere.
Wolt and DoorDash both use 16:9, but the minimum sizes differ. See the DoorDash photo requirements, and compare every app in the delivery platform photo requirements table.

It depends on the country. In Germany and Slovakia, new merchants automatically qualify for a free professional photoshoot. In Denmark the shoot is paid. Check the merchant FAQ for your country.
There are limits. The Wolt Germany FAQ says your right of use does not include print media. Check the terms for your country before you reuse the photos.
